Offered in the fall semester only, in collaboration with Syracuse University’s prestigious Maxwell School , this option features a professional internship experience for graduate international relations (MAIR) candidates with a working knowledge of Turkish.
MAIR students typically enroll for 9 credits: two 3-credit graduate-level seminars and a 3-credit internship. Interns are expected to work 20 to 25 hours per week during the semester. In Istanbul, most placements are with NGOs, CBOs, and other professional firms and associations; most governmental organizations are based in Ankara. While graduate students are encouraged to pursue options in Ankara, the SU Center is unable to provide the same level of support (assistance with introductions, orientation, housing, etc.).
The SU Istanbul Center’s Contemporary Issues in Turkey seminar, taught by the SUI Director, Dr. Erika Wilkens-Sözen, is also available to graduate students.
